Instillation
The collage we worked on was influenced by the easy access internet culture of appropriation we're surrounded by in modern society. The digital age has seen the downfall of 'ownership' and the increased accessibility of appropriation all over the world. We distribute each others content and send off our own information without a second thought. The online and it's created representations are a breeding ground for appropriation and we thought that this would be an interesting route to explore for this task. The collage itself was interesting as something collaborative- it kept evolving in a way we couldn't anticipate due to the influences of both our thinking. We wanted to display it as simplistically as possible; we wanted there to be a sense of raggedness and isolation as a way to bring our ideas into the presentation. The audio was really fun to make and pair with the collage, manipulating the sound to reflect the darker theme was the best part (it helped fill in the context of the image and make the piece feel a little more fully formed).

I was a little underwhelmed with the outcome of the piece we worked on in class and I wanted to push the ideas we were thinking about a little further. I ended up doing a short piece of writing detailing my new thoughts on our ways of appropriation and use of the internet. I then appropriated old work of my own to create a visual to go along with the words, adding in extra sounds and movement. I really liked the rough ideas and ways of working we explored and found it fascinating how you could create new work out of something old ( I didn't expect imagery to be so versatile).
