Thoughts
I find that playing off other people's ideas took my work in directions that I could not have anticipated myself. It would be interesting to try and embody a group of ideas, as during this task I only focused on the image that came before mine. Perhaps producing a visual brainstorm of other artists work and then using that as a jumping off point create my own would be a worthy exercise inspired by this method of working. The image that came before mine was that of a structured white statue of a woman I paid attention to the tone, the imagery and ideas that stuck out to me within the photo. I ended up considering ideas of being masked, inhuman, no more than an object and how performative elements can be incorporated into an image. I was thinking about femininity and identity, drawing inspiration from this in human representation of a human being. I edited the images to imitate the illusion of what I seen come before; the one I chose to use on the instagram ended up having the most similar qualities to the original. I mainly use trial and error to explore the task. I think an interesting quality about exquisite corpse and this way of making work is how it could be seen to mirror the way we think as people, and is a bigger picture- societal standards and the human desire to fit in.
Ideas to take forward
I really enjoyed the influence of a statue (something inhuman) when considering somebody as a subject. How do we detatch our identity from ourselves and what do we become if we do? At what point do we lose what we are- what does that look like? Does duplication or inspiration equate to somehow losing an aspect of authenticity or ownership? I'd be interested in exploring inadequate
